Talk To Your Dentist

The average person sees the Dentist 2 times per year. In most cases the visits are for a general cleaning and annual x-rays. While 90% of the visit is spent with the Dental Hygienist, we encourage patients to take a few moments to talk to your Dentist. This is your opportunity to share not only your health concerns but cosmetic concerns. We believe long-term problems can be prevented with a simple conversation. This can be anything from color to crowding.

Many people grow-up with a fear of seeing the Dentist and in some cases never grow out of the fear and, the fear caries over from childhood onto adulthood. When the time comes to take advantage of it and talk to your dentist.

The Waiting Game

Perhaps you sometimes find yourself feeling uneasy about the prospect of sitting in my chair. (Don't worry, I don't take it personally!) Well, the next time you're feeling that way, remind yourself of this interesting tidbit:
U.S. researchers have located the human brain’s "dread center,
" an area of the brain responsible for feelings of foreboding. Brain scans show that neurons that generate the feeling of anxiety lie within the same areas of the brain activated by pain.

How did they figure this out? Here comes the fun part! Researchers shocked the feet of more than thirty courageous volunteers while simultaneously scanning their brains. (Ouch!) Just be thankful you weren’t asked to participate.

The study found that about a quarter of the group were "extreme dreaders" who were more than willing to take a stronger jolt just to be done with the whole thing. It seems that the dread of an experience can be more overwhelming than any pain or discomfort actually associated with it.

Most dental procedures don’t hurt, but the anxiety associated with them can be extremely unpleasant. The anxiety could stem from a bad experience, a phobia, or even from watching Little Shop of Horrors one too many times. No matter its cause, the anticipation of things going wrong can be far worse than the actual experience.

So try to remember this the next time you grimace at the sight of an appointment reminder, a waiting room or a drill. The dread you're feeling is not proportional to the experience you're facing. Just take a deep breath and remember that science agrees — it really is all in your head.

We offer dental sedation for those who seriously suffer, ask us for more details.

"No Drill" To Fill is now a reality

Most people can tolerate many sounds, but the one common noise that people rate high on the "sends the shivers" list is the sound of a dental drill. It's right up there with nails on a chalkboard. Well, thanks to modern medicine, new procedures are developed everyday providing revolutionary solutions to old problems. One standout procedure is called Icon No-Drill Dentistry. This procedure not only has lasting and impressive results but the greatest benefit is to the comfort of the patient. In the past two options existed. One option was Fluoride Therapy and the other was drilling and filling the cavity. Fluoride Therapy is time consuming and the success rate is the lowest of the two. Drilling and filling have a high success rate. However, treats the problem once it becomes visible in the form of white or yellow spots seen above in this picture.

We began performing the Icon procedure and happy to report the results have been remarkable.
Here are the steps we take:
  • The tooth is cleaned, and treated with a cleanser to open up the enamel and dentin. The tooth is then dried with alcohol.
  • An ultra thin resin is applied to the tooth surface. Through capillary action, similar to a sponge soaking up water, the weakened enamel and dentin absorb an ultra thin resin over a period of 3 to 4 minutes.
  • The tooth surface is cleaned and the resin is hardened with a blue LED light.

3 steps to a brighter smile!

Another benefit to this procedure is our ability to monitor future cavities and apply prevention techniques. Our patients love the ease and comfort of Icon and in most cases eating and drinking within and hour of the process. Comfort and convenience not mention, but I will, the results are amazing. Here is the "after" photo

This photo was taken 10 minutes after the procedure. The patient was ecstatic with her new smile.
